Kurt was called to investigate random fuse blowing, which was occurring in the field supply circuit of a 2500 HP synchronous motor. This fuse blowing occurred anywhere from once or twice a day to one or twice a month. The problem had been going on for some time and was causing considerable downtime and expense. The owner was concerned that an expensive motor rewind of this large synchronous machine might be required. |

All meter readings appeared normal. No overloading was noted. Several weeks of recording with a strip chart DC ammeter finally caught a fuse blowing current spike on paper. This led Kurt to diagnose the problem as a fault in the motor brush rigging, which was easily corrected. The motor has not blown a fuse since. |
